 Marine Lance Cpl. Mark D. Juarez, 23, of San Antonio; assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; died Jan. 9 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.  

 

11 January

 Marine Cpl. Nicholas K. Uzenski, 21, of Tomball, Texas; assigned to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan; died Jan. 11 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.Also killed were Staff Sgt. Matthew N. Ingham and Cpl. Jamie R. Lowe.

 

19 January

 Army Capt. Paul W. Pena, 27, of San Marcos, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died Jan. 19 in Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

 

10 February

 Army Pfc. Adriana Alvarez, 20, of San Benito, Texas; assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.; died Feb. 10 in Baghdad, of injuries sustained while supporting combat operations.

 

13 February

 Army Spc. Bobby J. Pagan, 23, of Austin, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; died Feb. 13 of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Zhari province, Afghanistan. Also killed were Staff Sgt. John A. Reiners and Sgt. Jeremiah T. Wittman.

 

16 February

 Navy Information Systems Technician 1st Class Sean L. Caughman, 43, of Fort Worth, Texas; assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 22; died Feb. 16, while supporting operations in Kuwait.

 

11 March

 Marine Lance Cpl. Garrett W. Gamble, 20, of Sugar Land, Texas; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died March 11 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

 

16 March

 Army Staff Sgt. Richard J. Jordan, 29, of Tyler, Texas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; died March 16 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained during a vehicle roll-over.

 Army Staff Sgt. Esau S.A. Gonzales, 30, of White Deer, Texas; assigned to the 38th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, Fort Stewart, Ga.; died May 3 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.

 

06 May

 Marine Lance Cpl. Christopher Rangel, 22, of San Antonio; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; died May 6 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

 Marine Sgt. Kenneth B. May Jr., 26, of Kilgore, Texas; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died May 11 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Also killed was Marine Cpl. Jeffrey W. Johnson.


 Marine Cpl. Jeffery W. Johnson, 21, of Tomball, Texas; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died May 11 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Also killed was Sgt. Kenneth B. May Jr., 26, of Kilgore, Texas.

 

16 May

  Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Zarian Wood, 29, of Houston; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died May 16 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained in a blast from an improvised-explosive device while on mounted patrol.

 

27 May

 Marine Cpl. Jacob C. Leicht, 24, of College Station, Texas; assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died May 27 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

 

6 June

 Marine Lance Cpl. Derek Hernandez, 20, of Edinburg, Texas; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died June 6 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Also killed were Sgt. Brandon C. Bury and Cpl. Donald M. Marler.


 Marine Sgt. Brandon C. Bury, 26, of Kingwood, Texas; was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died June 6 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Also killed were Lance Cpl. Derek Hernandez and Cpl. Donald M. Marler.

 

7 June

 Army Spc. Matthew R. Catlett, 23, of Houston; assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died June 7 in Konar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. Also killed in the attack were Sgt. Joshua A. Lukeala, Spc. Charles S. Jirtle and Spc. Blaine E. Redding.

9 June

 Air Force Staff Sgt. Michael P. Flores, 31, of San Antonio; assigned to the 48th Rescue Squadron, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz.; died June 9, near FOB Jackson, Afghanistan, in a CV-22 Osprey helicopter crash. Also killed were Air Force 1st Lt. Joel C. Gentz, Air Force Staff Sgt. David C. Smith and Air Force Senior Airman Benjamin D. White.

 

11 June

 Army Sgt. Mario Rodriguez, 24, of Smithville, Texas; assigned to the 264th Clearance Company, 27th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Airborne), 20th Engineer Brigade, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died June 11 in Powrak, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades.

 

24 June

 Army Staff Sgt. Edwardo Loredo, 34, of Houston, Texas; assigned to 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died June 24 in Jelewar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

 

5 July

 Army Spc. Jerod H. Osborne, 20, of Royse City, Texas; assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died July 5 in Yakuta, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Spc. Keenan A. Cooper.

 

10 July

 Army Staff Sgt. Jesse W. Ainsworth, 24, of Dayton, Texas; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.; died July 10 near Walakan, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Sgt. Donald R. Edgerton.

 

 Army Sgt. Shaun M. Mittler, 32, of Austin, Texas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died July 10 in Konar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit using rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire.

 

15 July

 Army Staff Sgt. Leston M. Winters, 30, of Sour Lake, Texas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died July 15 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

 

23 July

 Army Pfc. James J. Oquin, 20, of El Paso, Texas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Fort Campbell, Ky.; died July 23 in Orgun-E, Afghanistan, from drowning when he was swept away by the current when a levee broke near his military vehicle in Paktika, Afghanistan.

 

29 July

 Marine Lance Cpl. Shane R. Martin, 23, of Spring, Texas; assigned to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died July 29 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

 

 Army Capt. Jason E. Holbrook, 28, of Burnet, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.; died July 29 at Tsagay, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his military vehicle with an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Staff Sgt. Kyle R. Warren.

 

30 July

 Army Sgt. Kyle B. Stout, 25, of Texarkana, Texas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died July 30 near Kandahar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Spc. Michael L. Stansbery.

 

9 August

 Marine Sgt. Jose L. Saenz III, 30, of Pleasanton, Texas; assigned to 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; died Aug. 9 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while supporting combat operations.

 

17 August

 Army Pfc. Benjamen G. Chisholm, 24, of Fort Worth, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died Aug. 17 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device caused a military vehicle rollover. Also killed was Army Pvt. Charles M. High IV.

 

21 August

 Army Pfc. Alexis V. Maldonado, 20, of Wichita Falls, Texas; assigned to 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas; died Aug. 21 at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small-arms fire in Zhari province, Afghanistan.

 

30 August

 Army Staff Sgt. Jesse Infante, 30, of Cypress, Texas; assigned to 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; died Aug. 30 in the Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Also killed in the attack were Army Pfc. Chad D. Clements, Army Capt. Dale A Goetz, Army Staff Sgt. Kevin J. Kessler and Army Staff Sgt. Matthew J. West.
