AMERICAN HEROES
This page is dedicated to true American heroes, that we may never forget their names, or the sacrifice they made. Nor should we forget those they left behind, who also made a great sacrifice, and now must live with that loss. There are so many who deserve to be shown on this page, I will add more as time goes by, and not just military personnel. They are members of Law Enforcement, Firemen, and common people who have given their all to save or protect the lives of their fellow man.
I have selected these for a number of reasons, they were as diverse as any young men could be, a professional football player, a rodeo clown, and a potential attorney. But the one common thread running through them is that they gave up careers, and bright, promising futures, to fight for something they believed in, and were willing to die for. Freedom, not just our freedom, but the freedom of a peoples half a world away. Why? Because they could, because it was in them to do so, because they believed in the American way of life. And for that belief, they gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives.

I now add a fourth hero to this tribute, a young man who joined the Army Reserve straight out of High School. Though he doesn't have similar credentials to the other three, he did show a highly gifted ability to use words to express himself in ways that everyone could fully understand. He also displayed intense leadership skills, and a complete commitment not only to God, his Country and his Service, but to those who served under him. Nothing more can be said of a good soldier than he was respected by his men, and that he died an honorable man.

Edmund John Jeffers, Sergeant, United States Army, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division
Died in Non-Combat Vehicle Rollover, Iraq, 19 September, 2007
Sgt. Jeffers is most recognized for his essay entitled "Hope Rides Alone", which he penned while in Iraq not long before the accident that took him from us. To read that essay in it's entirety, please click HERE.
